The market of services and medical products for hair care
follow two principal directions:
Preservation treatments
a. Care lotions, tinctures, shampoos
- act only external on the hair quality, some positive effects
are on short term, require a periodical treatment, they are
finally pretty expensive.
b. Medicines
for hair growing - partial results on short term, examples:
range of lotions with minoxidile: Regaine,
Alopexy, with an increasing of blood circulation through
the scalp and developing of puffy hair type. It works temporary
with a 70% efficiency out the androgenetic alopecia. It has
little side effects : diminution of blood pressure and tiredness.
Expensive and efficient only during the treatment.
Propecia,
seems to give users good results in regard to the hair regeneration
in 60% of cases, especially on the top of head, but its effect
is rather to stopping hair loss in 85% of patients. It requires
usage for at least 6 months long, usually the maximum effects
appear in 24 months that makes it too expensive. The results
go away once the most of patients quit using it.
c.
Artificial hair - wigs, locks, require very carefully
watch out while the wind is blowing up , they are unconfortable
and can cause scalp irritations. Their aesthetic look can cheat
nobody.
Surgical treatments
a.
Implant with artificial hair - rejection side effect
from the skin, around 20% losses every year because of this
reason. It requires periodical interventions, which raises its
cost very much.
b. Transposition scalp flaps -
The skin with hair is lifted from the sides towards the bald
area. It doesn't give a natural look of hair line, plus leaves
unaesthetical scars (see
photo no. 6).
c. Reducing scalp
- the bald areas are only reduced, but not covered, big scars
remain that need to be implanted anyhow.
d.
Transplant with islands of own hair - guarantees the
growth of implanted hair, gives an unaesthetical look of tufts,
it limitates the donor areas because it practises the macroimplants
technique, it requires more surgery sessions, the final cost
is a lot bigger than seems to be by phone call. Usually it takes
minimum four sessions for a satisfactory covering. |
